3rd and 4th Primary pupils have worked the character of Jarramplas with their music teacher and anthropologist AlmudenaLópez. It is a strange being with horns, of a thousand colours , with mane and who carries a drum, like one of the winter tales.
As happened with other ancestral celebrations, the Church linked it to Saint Sebastián , but we don’t know exactly the origin of Jarramplas. In class, the version that Piornal’sneighbours
cotton and coffee and to seal with melted red wax, that keep the short version by Acetre believe was explained. This one is about a thief who used to steal cattle. Another possibility is that of a wolf that “jarramplaba” (destroyed) everything it came acrossand on which one day people took revenge by throwing stones and vegetables at (the famous turnips)
Whatever the origin may be , the important thing is that the celebration is still alive and we hope it will do so for many more years.
We immortalized it in the form of singing Romances , in paper parchments we learnt to make older with of “La alborada” of Jarramplas.
The Deputy Major and the Culture Councillor of Piornal´sTownhall, Mr. Prieto Calle congratulated us personally on our work and invited us to take part in next year celebration.
